Back in 2022 I purchased one of these key of D flutes for a shockingly low price considering the amount of time and expertise put into it. I ended up never learning to play the flute, so I can’t speak to the sound quality or ease of playability, but the seller was great at communicating and I appreciated his vision to create an affordable flute. I imagine his craftsmanship and techniques have only improved over the past few years, as I’ve seen him make and sell a bunch of these on Facebook groups. I can definitely recommend him as a seller!

Excellent flute! Many people have thought that it’s a wooden one at first glance. Pleasure to play and good sound. Very affordable and Bear was great to deal with.

I have one; both the sound and the look are gorgeous. It looks like rich wood; my daughter was shocked it was not. And the sound is lovely with sweet timbre and great expressivity and volume. Notes are pure and accurate. This flute punches *way above it’s weight. It’s a gem.

I purchased one of Critter Bear’s flutes in the early days and was really impressed with the playability. It was an inexpensive flute, to say the least, so I wasn’t expecting a whole lot but it definitely exceeded my expectations. If you’re on the fence, just go for it! I’m sure Critter has only continued to refine their flute making skills. Keep it up!

These flutes are a great value for beginners. I wound up buying a few of them. To write this review, I pulled out my D flute and tried it again. Plays in tune, nice tone, ergonomic and looks like wood if you don’t get too close. I bought mine years ago, and I see they have been upgraded since then, so even better. Bear Flutes will get you off to a great start!

I purchased 2 flutes from critter bear. Both flutes were packaged very neatly and secure. Both flutes were identical with the same embouchure shape. Clean finger holes and comfortable spacing. The tuning joint slides effortlessly and it is easy to tune in and out of the D maj depending on how hard you play. As a flute maker myself I have to say these flutes are a joy to play they resonate very well and they are great to take on the go. Yoy will be surprised how loud and resonate these flutes are. For the price its really going to make you want another. You can beat them around without having to worry about loosing or breaking a 1000 dollar flute. You can buy 3 or 4 keep them in every room at home. I have had mine for going on 2 years maybe longer and I still play it regularly. Critter is very creative and his flutes are always improving. I highly recommend these to beginners, collectors, and even seasoned players.

I purchased one of these flutes several years ago, with interest in learning how to play wind instruments. I was very pleased that it was a relatively inexpensive purchase, as beginner flutes can range around $200-$500. I was really pleased with how easy it was to start playing, and tuning in the proper tone. Additionally, the practice videos online by Critter are very easy to follow, it made it a lot easier to pick up and practice. A very pleasant experience overall!

This is a great flute, especially for the price. The wide bore takes a bit more air than some others, but it’s worth it since the tone is massive, especially on the low end. And the painted PVC looks surprisingly good-I’ve had audience members ask me what kind of wood, sometime with specific guesses as to the variety. It’s well worth the price, and great to have an indestructible instrument to play by the campfire or loan out to new players without worrying about damage!

I’m very happy with the flute I purchased! I’m new to the instrument and it’s great to have an affordable, yet beautiful, option on which to learn. It is precisely tuned and has a great tone. I would highly recommend these flutes for their reasonable cost, appealing aesthetics, and beautiful tone. I would buy one again in a heartbeat.

Excellent craftsmanship, great sound, and perfectly in tune! Feels solid/weighty in a good way due to thick PVC and the brass fitting. Sure, it’s a PVC flute, but if you’re in a dimly lit pub, you’ll probably fool a few people into thinking you’ve got a nice solid wood one thanks to the gorgeous finish. :) Low maintenance, great for travel. The only minor warning I have is that it takes a few weeks for the smell of the stain to wear off if you’re ordering from a freshly made batch. It’s not overpowering, but definitely a little surprising if you’re not expecting it at first. But it will wear off!
